James Becker, department head of Teacher's Education at Western Kentucky University, said "We've trained teachers to be technicians, but they should have the freedom to be more creative."

Do you think this is true in every case?

You have leeway here to speak to a number of issues. A good answer for a new teacher should note that all teachers must be creative, but that creativity probably comes with experience. This is a good place to interject your willingness to use mentors. Ask if mentoring is encouraged at this school and if there are especially creative teachers who might be open to letting new teachers observe their classes from time to time.

You can also mention that you have lots of creative ideas for presenting material to your students but that you would want to bounce some of them off the veterans to get their opinions before actually using them in class.

And be prepared to give some great examples!
